About us

Verbraucherschützer.org is an independent, non-governmental information portal for consumers, with a focus on Germany. We explain consumer rights in plain language, gather current warnings from official sources and provide free tools.

What we are, and what we are not

We are a private initiative. We are not a public authority, not a Verbraucherzentrale (consumer advice centre) and not a law firm. Our content is general information and does not replace legal advice in an individual case. Where we make legal statements, we cite the legal basis so you can verify every statement.

How we work

• Guides: editorially produced, citing the legal basis and sources. Articles that have not yet been reviewed by a specialist lawyer are marked accordingly.
• Warnings: automatically aggregated from official, named sources (among others the phishing radar of the Verbraucherzentrale NRW, BaFin, Lebensmittelwarnung.de, Watchlist Internet). Every item links to the original.
• Finance check: a live query of the FinBe.org licence database, which gathers the authorisation registers and warning lists of international financial regulators.
• Letter templates: run entirely in your browser. Your details are not transmitted to us.

Funding

The portal is currently operated and financed privately. We run no advertising, sell no data and receive no commissions from providers we report on.
